In late April, 2009, I departed on my longest road trip since the yearlong trip. This one would take me in a northeasterly direction from Dallas, all the way to the corner of our country… and then all the way back!

Other collegiate explorations

  • Attended and facilitated discussion group at College Metro, a gathering of several dozen church-based Southern Baptist college ministers and related leaders. This gathering provided the chance to connect and reconnect with several college ministers, hear messages, and participate in roundtable discussion. I facilitated one roundtable discussion on collegiate evangelism methods. (Details from that discussion can be found here.)
  • Attended and spoke at National Collegiate Summit, a gathering of nearly 600 college ministers and related leaders from within the Southern Baptist denomination. This week involved connecting with many college ministers and discussing their contexts, work, etc. I got to attend several great seminars, as well, and I delivered a seminar: “Big Ideas for Developed Campus Ministries.” (Read more about my seminar here.)
  • Discussed Liberty University and Liberty Theological Seminary with Dave and Vicki Pettus. Dave is the Associate Dean for Online Learning at LTS and an associate professor of Old Testament. Vicki is on staff in the Accounting Department of LU. Vicki also showed me much of the LU / LTS campus.
  • Attended a mission trip reunion from the Ireland Trip of The Foundry Church, Wallingford, PA.
  • Attended a concert of Salt ‘n Harmony, a group sponsored by Peace & Power Christian Fellowship, Drexel University
  • Participated in a Bible study of Peace & Power Christian Fellowship, Drexel University. Facilitated by Director Brian Musser.
  • Attended the large group meeting of Campus Crusade for Christ, Drexel University. Message by Barry Kang, Site Pastor of Temple Site, Grace Covenant Church, Philadelphia.
  • Attended the Emerging Adulthood Conference through the Institute for Youth Ministry at Princeton Theological Seminary. The conference included main sessions, breakout sessions, and small group discussions. I was able to connect with leaders involved in college ministry and young adult ministry throughout the conference, and I reconnected with the University Ministries staff of North Park University and professors of college ministry Chris Kiesling (Asbury Theological Seminary) and David Setran (Wheaton Graduate School).
  • Attended a going away party (for a student leader) with members of The Bridge (church), Storrs, CT
  • Spent time in Boston with a collegiate mission trip from the Baptist Student Ministries of Amarillo College.
  • Participated in English Class with international students co-sponsored by the Chinese Student and Scholar Association and the Baptist Campus Ministry, MIT
  • Attended a going-away party (for Baptist Campus Minister Shelly Webb) with members of the Baptist Campus Ministry, MIT
  • Participated (a little) in New York City with a collegiate mission trip from the Baptist Collegiate Ministry, University of Miami
  • Attended a college / young adult Bible study organized by Steve Lutz, Coalition for Christian Outreach, Boalsburg, PA
  • Attended and spoke at the NACCAP (North American Coalition for Christian Admissions Professionals) National Conference. I presented a seminar on the national college ministry scene and ways Christian high school counselors can help their students transition to college for spiritual success. I also attended activities with the NACCAP board before the main conference and then spent time with several NACCAP members and attended sessions of the main conference. (Members include both admissions counselors from Christian colleges and guidance counselors from Christian high schools.)
