Wednesday, July 9th through Wednesday, August 20th

This last chapter was no small task! Beginning with some time in Arkansas, Tennessee, and Kentucky, I then made a push all the way into the Mountain West and Arizona. And then back to Texas, of course, to cross the finish line. Good times, indeed.

States: Arkansas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Iowa, Nebraska (#42), Wyoming (#43), Colorado (#44), New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, and Chihuahua, Mexico.

Special Events: Conferences

  • Workshop, Campus Ministry United, a fellowship of college ministers of the Churches of Christ, held at Harding University July 10th through 12th. This 3-day workshop provided great discussion of important areas of Collegiate Ministry. I also had neat opportunities to connect with Church of Christ ministers from throughout the U.S., as well as much ministry discussion with organizer and college minister Wes Woodell.
  • Connect ’08 Conference, involving college ministries of the Churches of Christ, held at Colorado School of Mines July 31st through August 3rd (I attended opening night). Art Heffron, director of Rocky Mountain Campus Ministries, served as host of this year’s event, and he graciously allowed me to attend the one night I was able. This included great opportunities to connect with Church of Christ ministers from across the U.S. – and a different crowd from the above conference.
  • National Collegiate Week (West), organized by Lifeway Christian Resources of the Southern Baptist Convention, held at Glorieta Conference Center, Glorieta, NM, Aug. 2nd through 8th. Collegiate Week is one of the top highlights of any year for me, as college ministers and their students gather for a multitude of training opportunities, large group worship services, and fellowship events. I had all kinds of chances to reconnect with college ministers and students I met this year, as well as meeting some new peeps. Plus, I enjoyed great worship times and teaching and seminars all week long. A couple of very specific, formal “explorations” are noted in the categories above, but I had an abundance of great, informal chances to “explore college ministry” all week.

Next…

The trip ends (presumably) in late August, and I’m not real sure what that will mean… We’ll see.
