Exploring College Ministry
Innovation & Ideation for Campus Missions
Category: chapter 4a – winter break

This is Exploring College Ministry

After ministering to college students for 8 years, I've spent the last 11 years trying to help push our whole field forward. This has all meant, among other things, a yearlong road trip, an e-book (Reaching the Campus Tribes), exploring 350+ campuses, consulting, writing, speaking, and more. I love any opportunity to serve college ministers or others who want to reach college students better.

i just can’t wait to be on the road again…

Benson Hines January 23, 2008 chapter 4a - winter break / chapter 5 - west coastLeave a comment

It looks like leaving day is tomorrow (Thursday).  It’s been neat to see God work stuff out (including my health) to get back out on the road in a pretty timely manner. I can’t wait. Next stop, San Diego. If you’re interested in receiving regular trip updates – like when …

abundant uniquities

Benson Hines January 21, 2008 brainstorming & creativity / chapter 4a - winter break / churches3 Comments

Regardless of my personal preferences, philosophies, or other serious considerations, one ministry characteristic is quite a highlight during my crazy year as I attend so many churches: Uniqueness. This theme is on my mind bigtime after attending Fellowship Church in Grapevine Saturday night. I’d never been to Fellowship, but this …

Friday, I had the excellent opportunity to attend the Passion Regionals “Vision Meeting” for the upcoming Dallas/Fort Worth Passion Regionals event. Not only was it like a lil’ family reunion with my college ministry friends from this area, but I got to experience the “heart” of Passion in a way …

getting well and getting out

The flu is a bummer. But it looks like, maybe just maybe, I’m getting over it. Which is good, ’cause I definitely need to get back on the road. And back on the blog, too. Expect normal production to resume tomorrow, as long as I keep getting better! For now, …

historic church moments along the way

Benson Hines January 12, 2008 audio & video / chapter 4a - winter break / churchesLeave a comment

For the second time this trip, I’ve had the opportunity to be on-site for a pastor’s “state of the church address” – those sermons that cast big vision (and often present major changes) for a congregation. While these moments may not be truly “historic” for Christendom at large, for the …

the glory of the tweak

Benson Hines January 10, 2008 articles & posts / assessment & strength / chapter 4a - winter break / for using student leadersLeave a comment

I’m real sick this week, which is a bummer. So no new writing today. Fortunately, I just wrote an article on the value of “tweaking” in our ministries. The specific theme is tweaking leadership structures in our college ministries, but the idea is applicable far beyond that specific area. You …

my chance to vomit; your chance to pray

I have opportunities tonight and this weekend to talk about what I’ve seen and learned on this trip so far. Hurray! (The events are Temple Baptist Church’s college ministry Bible study, “Store 23,” and a Collegiate Leaders’ retreat in New Mexico.) It will be so much fun to throw up …
