A simple idea for your next teaching series, or even a great “one-off” for next semester:

Have you discussed with your students the “Theology of Their Technology” yet?

It struck me this morning that there are plenty of very basic, very important issues that connect with social media, iPhones, and all the technology that is standard in our students’ (and our) lives. And that’s what good teaching series often are – springboards to talk about the basic issues students need to wrestle with. In this case, my list of connected issues looks like this:

  • Vanity and “Perception Management”
  • Time management
  • Honesty
  • Community / Connectedness
  • Loneliness
  • Evangelism
  • Using our words to impact (encouragement, exhortation, disciplemaking, etc.)
  • How we use our money / Consumerism / Materialism

…and that’s just issues connected to technology that I came up with in 4 minutes!

We have to be careful with building series based on what will draw or excite students. But when we can take issues we know they need to hear, connected with very relevant pieces of their lives, we can impact them well AND encourage them to pay attention.
