Great point from Jim Collins yesterday at Catalyst.
He noted that though many Christians worry about churches running too much like businesses, in fact no ministries should ever aim to run like a business. Most businesses are average; why would we want to be average?
However, we can and should look for any bit of wisdom we can about how great organizations have gotten that way – even if those illustrations of wisdom come from outside our ministry world.
So, first question for us: How have great college ministries in your context become great? Why does that Christian sorority have such strong commitment from its ladies? How has that one church out of town drawn students consistently for 15 years?
And – this is a bit scarier – what about other organizations? How has that amazing Boating club on your campus gotten so strong in the past couple of years? Anything you can learn from them?
