Exploring College Ministry is a blog about missions.

I know it doesn’t seem that way. It seems like we’re talking about college ministry here, day after day.

When people ask me what I learned on this year’s nationwide exploration of Collegiate Ministry, my first response is usually, “A lot.” (I did learn an awful lot.)

But I follow that with something else: Most of the principles and truths I learned about college ministry fit surprisingly under ONE single idea umbrella.

That idea?

The practice of college ministry is far more like Missions
Than like “Church Education.”
So ministering to a college campus is in many ways
More like Missions in Mozambique
Than it is even like Youth Ministry.

Obviously, that’s not the way most Christian pastors, parishioners, parents, or power brokers think about college ministry yet. Most college ministry practitioners don’t realize the resemblance, either.

But all I’ve learned about Collegiate Ministry (in 8 years + 1 BIG year of learning from hundreds) continues to lead me to this model.

So this is a blog about Missions. I would love for you to stick around and unpack that with me.

  1. Preach it, Benson! College ministry has the potential to touch the world in a way that almost no other ministry does, and it involves a lot of the same skills as foreign missions. Can’t wait to see you unpack this more.
