getting my six fix

Oops, I did it again.

For the second weekend of this trip, I achieved 6 church services in a weekend.

I won’t hype it again, since I did all that last time. Now it’s kinda becoming passĂ©, right? But I still don’t feel I can let such a feat go unmentioned.

It takes skill. It takes timing. It takes web sites full o’ information – and churches full o’ multiple services.

Here’s the (quick) run-down…

Real Life Ministries, 5:30pm, 3-28, Post Falls, ID, Senior Pastor Jim Putnam preaching (Yes, their weekend services are on Friday nights and Sundays. But I didn’t even have a Saturday service… if I had…)

City Church, Kirkland, WA, 8am 3-30, Benny Perez, Pastor of The Church at South Las Vegas, preaching

Eastlake Community Church, Bothell, WA, 9:30am 3-30, Teaching Pastor Mike Meeks preaching

Overlake Christian Church, Redmond, WA, 11am 3-30, Lead Pastor Mike Howerton preaching

University Presbyterian Church, Seattle, WA, 5pm 3-30, Senior Pastor Earl Palmer preaching

Mars Hill Church, Ballard (Main) Campus, Seattle, WA, 7pm 3-30, Teaching Pastor Mark Driscoll preaching

Very interesting places, that’s for sure. All but one church can be found on Church Relevance’s list of “Churches to Watch,” based on their inclusion on other various church lists – fastest growing, most innovative, most influential, largest – over the last few years. So some particularly awesome opportunities this weekend!

Now, on to exploring their college ministries…

One of these days (maybe), I’ll get to report on all the churches of this trip, too. I think I counted 43 church services just since Jan. 26th.

Well, maybe I won’t write about all of them – but some sort of commentary & categorization could make for somethin’ cool – like a Jim and Casper on steroids. Who knows? We’ll see.

  1. Greg Lins

    Rambling man Benson…

It seems you’re working on something I have thought about doing from time to time. I started searching and got stuck along the way at Overlake Christian Church – not to say that I’m STUCK there, because I could certainly move on. I just like it, so I’m sticking with it… (oddly enough, the theme for this month is getting “unstuck”)

So please, tell it like it is. We need details. Full accounts. Suggestions. Insight. Witty reparte.

What’s the buzz? Tell me what’s happening… (if you’re too young to know what that means, Google it.)

Seriously, would love to hear more detail. Stop by my blog and say hello sometime too…

    Take Care and God Bless,

  2. I would LOVE to be able to give more detail. There are a few things standing in way of that, though…

    1. At best guess, I’m probably closing in on 150 church services for the year. That’s an awful lot of writing – and reading – if I’m gonna interact with all those churches.

    2. It’s no fun and less-than-effective if all I can write is positive stuff. But right now, “charitable” is the word for my trip. Plus, if I was public with critique (positive or negative), a few people might realize I was coming their way. And that messes up the “anonymous visitor” factor.

Like I said up there, I’ll hopefully write a book later on the church-visiting aspect. It really would be a huge version of a Jim and Casper Go to Church (or I Sold My Soul on eBay, too), even if I just included all the “famous” churches I’ve gotten to see. At least that’s one possibility, if anybody’s interested in publishing me.

Thanks, though! I’m glad you enjoyed it! What is your blog? I’d love to take a look.
